- IMHO, yes, you're wrong -- on just about every point. (not a flame)
-
- The ONLY way that the Amiga is going to survive is if it tries to blend
- in with the rest of the world. AmigaTech are a small company, which
- simply makes it impossible to make custom chips even if you think that
- that is a good idea. (Which it isn't) Standard hardware is the only
- feasible way to make a flexible system that can suit the majority of
- needs. The 060 would be a ludicrous choice for "future" Amigas, since
- it's already too slow/expensive today, and it's clearly the end of the
- 680x0 line (even the 040 could be considered the end, since 060s are
- almost impossible to get).
- Any processor other than PPC or 80x86 simply can't support a computer
- platform for a mass audience. If AT were to stick with custom chips,
- and any processor other than PPC (which incidentally is a Motorolla,
- Apple, & IBM joint effort -- not "an IBM chip") or Intel, their
- market would just continue to shrink... It's a complete dead-end
- path. There are some very cool SVGA gfx cards on their way too BTW.
- Going with standard hardware IMO won't mean less Amiga games (is that
- even possible?), but will rather mean many more, and of a much higher
- calibre, since a PPCP Amiga will make porting games very easy.
- Licensing the chipset from a games platform such as the 3DO, or PS/X
- wouldn't be a very good idea either, since those chips are designed
- specifically for games ONLY, and wouldn't make very good general
- purpose computer graphics chips. No offense, but your philosophy
- of what the Amiga is, was, or should be, can't possibly fit into
- the 1990s, and certainly not the next millenium...
-
- Now for the flame. ;)
-
- Go ahead and have your opinion (however wrong it may be ;), but do
- we really have to hear it 4 times a day? I've seen way too many of
- your posts, and they all say exactly the same thing (PPC = IBM crap,
- PowerAmiga = IBM crap with an Amiga sticker, why develop for PAmiga
- instead of PC, SVGA sucks, AT are killing the Amiga, blah blah blah),
- all followed by your really big sig. Just get over it please...
